Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, revealed on Thursday that he will abandon the Peoples Democratic Party in favor of the New Nigeria People Party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso stated that he would make his next political move before the end of March.
This comes just days after the former governor, speaking on Nasara FM in Kano, urged Nigerians to vote for a party other than the APC and the PDP in the general elections of 2023.
Kwankwaso, who claims the major political parties have nothing to offer, stated, “I didn’t see anything that either APC or PDP will show or tell Nigerians to get convinced and vote for them in the coming 2023 elections.
“So I think people should now come to think of the right party and people to support and vote for so that we can rescue the present situation.
“In 2015, we gave the leadership of the state to some, thinking that they will make it, but not knowing that it won’t yield any positive outcome. That is why we are back to rescue our state.”
Following his decision to leave the PDP, the former governor teamed up with a group of famous Nigerians to form the ‘National Movement, TNM.’
An ally of the former governor told BBC Hausa that the Kano PDP’s terrible handling of the problem prompted him to leave the party.
