On Thursday, an Osun State High Court in Osogbo remanded Dr Rahman Adedoyin, the proprietor of the Hilton Hotel and Resort in Ile-Ife, pending the outcome of his bail application, in connection with the alleged murder of Adegoke Timothy, an OAU postgraduate student.
Adedoyin was charged with Adedeji Adesola, Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwale Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem, and Adebayo Kunle, as well as six of his hotel employees.
The defendant was charged with conspiracy, murder, evidence tampering, felony, and indecent interference with the deceased’s corpse, among other things.
While moving his bail motion, Adedoyin’s lawyer, Mr K. Eleja, SAN, stated that he relied on his written address and the medical report produced by the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital and the Asokoro District Hospital in seeking the court’s permission to admit the defendant to bail.
Also, while making an application for bail on behalf of other defendants, Mr Kunle Adegoke, SAN, said the affidavits and materials before the court speak for themselves and adopted the written address.
He went on to say that the court has the discretion to admit the defendants to bail, and he asked it to do so in his client’s favor, given that their sureties have signed an affidavit promising not to jump bail.
Adegoke, on the other hand, asked the court for a short adjournment so that he could file a bail application for the seventh defendant, Adesola Adedeji, who was added to the case after the charge was changed 24 hours ago.
M. Omosun, the prosecutor’s counsel, did not object to the application for adjournment.
In allowing the plea for adjournment, Chief Judge Adepele Oyebola-Ojo ordered that the defendant be held in Ilesa correctional custody until Friday, March 4, 2022, to allow the application to be moved.
