At the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana, on Wednesday, Aruna Quadri, the top-ranked table-tennis player in Africa, earned a second medal for Nigeria.
This came after the 35-year-old Quadri lost the men’s table tennis singles championship final 4-3 against Omar Assar of Egypt. Assar won the opening set 11-8, but Quadri—who is presently ranked 14th in the world—came back to win the next two sets 11-2, 11-2.

Aruna won the fifth set 11-9, although the Egyptian took the fourth set 11-7.
To win the gold medal, Assar went on to win the final two sets, 11-9 and 11-0.
In the women’s singles competition on Tuesday, Offiong Edem took home the bronze medal, her first medal as a Nigerian.
