The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Fuad Laguda commonly referred to as FKL has been proclaimed the victor of the Surulere Federal Constituency 1 Bye-Election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Professor Simeon Adebayo Bamire, the Returning Officer for the bye-election, said that Laguda, a former chairman of the APC in the Surulere Local Government, had won with 11,203 votes.
Laguda will replace Femi Gbajabiamila who was named President Bola Tinubu’s chief of staff in the middle of 2023.
Prior to his appointment as Chief of Staff, Gbajabiamila was elected to the House for a sixth straight term on February 25, 2019, after serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023. He represented the Surulere 1 Federal Constituency.

Before continuing to Ansar-ud-Deen High School, Falolu, Surulere, for his secondary school, which he finished in 1993, Laguda received his primary education at K. Kotun Memorial Nursery and Primary School, Surulere, Lagos.
After completing his required National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Debit Management Office in 2001/2002, he earned his Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Economics from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, in 2000.
His MBA from the University of Lagos Business School and his Master’s in Public Administration (Public Policy) from the University of Lagos (Unilag).
Fuad Laguda holds the following designations: Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), and Associate of the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (ICEN).
He received a certificate in the implementation of public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School/Executive Education in Boston, and he also has a certificate in entrepreneurship management from the Enterprise Development Centre at Pan-Atlantic University.
