The All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Senator Monday Okpebholo was named the winner of the Edo State 2024 governorship election yesterday at precisely 9:28 p.m., setting off festivities throughout the state.
With 291,667 votes, Senator Monday defeated PDP candidate Dr. Asue Ighodalo, who received 247,655 votes, the closest competitor. In Edo’s most competitive governorship election ever, Okpebholo prevailed with 44,012 votes, while Olumide Akpata, the standard bearer for the Labour Party, LP, came in a distant third with 22,763 votes.
Sen. Okpebholo made a vow to advance Edo State shortly after the election results were announced, stating that Edo was growing and that “Edo people have elected the right person for the job.” A fresh Edo is emerging. My goal is to grow Edo State and make Edo the better place it deserves to be. I would like to inform you that I shall begin where Adams Oshiomhole left off. Edo will experience a fresh metamorphosis and, with God’s grace, persevere.
Although Okpebholo only won one of the three senatorial districts, he was able to win 11 of the state’s 18 local councils. He was victorious in Edo North, the home of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, but lost to Ighodalo, a native of Edo Central, in both Edo Central and Edo South.
