Iyorchia Ayu, the beleaguered national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been forbidden by a high court in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, from posing as the party’s leader until the outcome of the substantive petition, whose hearing has been postponed until April 17, 2023.
Terhide Utaan, a PDP member from Benue who is the plaintiff before Justice W. I. Kpochi, got the judgement prohibiting Ayu from impersonating the party’s national chairman.

After getting the court order, the plaintiff spoke to press in Makurdi and stated that it is inappropriate for Ayu to continue holding the position of national chairman and further splinter the party after being suspended by his Igyorov Ward Exco on Sunday.
After the party’s defeat in the presidential election, Ayu was suspended late last week for anti-party actions. However, in a statement released on Monday by his media assistant Simon Imobo-Tswam, the former legislator claimed that only the ward lacked the authority to suspend him.
On Monday, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State and Ayu’s political adversary in the PDP, declared his joy at the Benue State ward exco’s rejection of Ayu.
“I am not from Benue State, but I am happy, and now that Benue State has done it, we would now come out and say we are in support of it,” he said.
