The Federal Government declared Wednesday, September 14, 2022 that negotiations for the release of the Abuja-Kaduna train passengers won’t be hampered by the arrest of Tukur Mamu, proprietor of the Desert Herald newspaper.
Mamu is an assistant to Ahmad Gumi, a well-known Islamic cleric who has participated in talks to free the passengers who were kidnapped in a train attack in March 2022.
After a meeting of the national security council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, the minister of police affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi, claimed the talks involved additional parties in a press conference.
He declared: “We are doing everything in our power to free every Nigerian who is being held captive by either kidnappers or bandits.

The DSS has detained Mamu for actions that are detrimental to the goal of security management and control because they relate to the kidnapping victims you mentioned.
“The matter is in court and the court has ruled accordingly. We are not sparing any effort to release our abducted brothers and sisters, who are still in captivity.
“Maybe you only came to know Mamu because he made himself known. There are other negotiators who are there negotiating on behalf of those captives.
“The parents are present, and so are security agencies. We are all negotiating. Don’t assert that there is no negotiator since Mamu has been arrested, he urged.
