Following the collapse of a building under construction in the private neighbourhood of some of the wealthiest Nigerians on April 12, 2023, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the evacuation of certain completed and uncompleted buildings in the state’s Banana Island district.
Gboyega Akosile, the governor’s chief press secretary, said in a post on his Twitter account that the governor accompanied a delegation of government officials on Saturday for an on-the-spot evaluation of a seven-story structure under construction that just collapsed in the Banana Island area.

Following the inspection trip, the governor reportedly instructed the marking for removal of some completed and unfinished buildings in Banana Island today.
“Some completed and uncompleted buildings are marked for removal in Banana Island today following Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s instruction after the inspection tour,” he tweeted.
