In response to the federal government’s inability to reach an agreement on a new national minimum wage and to rescind the increase in the energy rate, Organised Labour has announced an indefinite nationwide strike that will begin on Monday, June 3. The organisation regrets any difficulties that the strike may bring Nigerians.
Since last week, there have been rumours that if the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage falls short of Labor’s expectations, Organised Labour, operating under the auspices of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its counterpart, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), may declare a nationwide strike beginning on Monday.

“Apologies for inconveniences but commitment to pursue the cause to its conclusion,” the heads of the NLC and TUC said during the briefing, expressing their regret over the government’s failure to take their May 1 ultimatum seriously. They begged Nigerians to bear with them.
