Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State says all schools in the state would reopen for the continuation of the first term of the 2020/2021 academic session on Monday, January 11.
In a statement on Friday by the state Commissioner for Education, Dr Kanaelechi Nwangwa, in Umaihia, the state capital the governor said the reopening of the schools is to ensure that the first term runs a full course as expected
According to Nwangwa, the first term of the 2020/2021 academic session will now officially end on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
The commissioner said the duration of the first term for the 2020/2021 academic session is from November 2, 2020, to Feb. 10, 2021, with the Christmas break in-between.
He directed all school heads and proprietors to ensure the observance of COVID-19 protocols for the safety of teachers and students.
The commissioner noted that any school proprietor that shortchanges this schedule and decides to cut corners by running an abridged term will be appropriately sanctioned.
Nwangwa added that adherence to all COVID-19 guidelines was imperative following the second wave of the novel virus in the country.
