Vice President Yemi Osinbajo expressed optimism on Friday that presidential aspirants from the All Progressives Congress in the South West would soon choose a regional consensus candidate.
Osinbajo, who has announced his desire to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, made the announcement ahead of the party’s presidential primary poll.
On Friday, the presidential candidate expressed his thoughts to delegates of the party in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.
Osinbajo is trying to win the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the party’s National Leader, Bola Tinubu, who is also from the region.
When asked about the divide generated by various stakeholders’ presidential ambitions in the South West, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo indicated that negotiations are ongoing to find a consensus candidate.
He also noted that the subject of a consensus presidential candidate will be handled by Yoruba elders and leaders, and that consultations are ongoing.
Osinbajo while speaking said, “I believe strongly in the wisdom of Yoruba elders and leaders, and consultations are always ongoing.
“I believe that very soon we will resolve whatever differences exist and we will reach an agreement on the way forward.”
