According to a letter received by InsightnaijaTV on Friday, dated February 8, 2022, Abdulrasheed Akanbi, Oluwo of Iwo land in Osun State, has requested financial and logistical support from the state government for his approaching marriage to an unnamed princess from Kano State.
According to a letter issued to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, the monarch stated that the estimated cost of the event exceeds N20,000,000.
“I have the instruction of His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo to notify you of the Oluwo’s decision to marry a Princess from Kano Emirate, to be precise Ado Bayero dynasty.
“I wish to remind your Excellency that the kind of royal wedding within two notable traditional institutions in Nigeria will require huge expenses, which necessitate the support of state government financially even logistically.
“Moreover, the estimated amount for the event is above N20,000,000. His Excellency, Oba Akanbi relies on you for necessary consideration and approval on this request,” the letter read.
Oluwo divorced his former wife, Chanel Chin, in December 2019, and the palace has been without a queen ever then.
He announced his divorce in 2019 through his spokesperson, Alli Ibraheem, citing “personal irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
Ms Chin was accused of filming their bedroom activities and of attempting to blackmail Oluwo into paying her money in exchange for her not releasing a certain video, according to Oluwo.
The controversial monarch ridiculed her as well, claiming that God Almighty, who is worthy of worship, would never allow his ordained servant to be humiliated by foes.
He did not, however, go into depth about what is in the video. The monarch also chastised his putative detractors, including kings, for failing to bring him down.
During their tumultuous divorce, the ex-queen posted a video of the monarch rolling up a marijuana to smoke.
This came after she gave an interview in which she accused him of a variety of vices, including sleeping with their 13-year-old maid.
Long before the king’s elevation to the throne, they met in Toronto, Canada, where they both lived.
On November 10, 2015, after his ascension, they married.
The couple had a son named Oduduwa as a result of their union. The monarch’s estranged wife revealed her marriage to the Oluwo was built on lies in an interview published in December 2020.
