Nigeria’s tourism sector could be the next gold mine of the Country, lf all levels of Government give priority to the development of necessary lnfrastructure such as amenities as good road network and enabling environment to make the sector thrive in line with global best tourism practices.
This was the consensus of stakeholders during 2020 World Tourism Day celebration
in Badagry.
Speaking at the yearly event, the Supervisory Councillor for Tourism and Environment, Badagry Local government, Mr. Nunanyon Apata, who described the ancient city of Badagry as the cradle of tourism in Nigeria, said that its high time that the State Government harness the Tourism potentials that abound in Badagry, as other advanced Countries has done.
Mr. Apata, also charged the State Government to hasten the construction of Badagry – Lagos Expressway, noting that Tourism cannot thrive without a good road.
Earlier in his speech, an Hotelier and stakeholder in the Tourism Industry, Mr. Whedeyon Hundeyin, who lamented that the deplorable condition of Badagry road has killed the hospitality and tourism industry in Badagry, appealed to relevant authorities to assist in fixing the major road network, which connects Nigeria to it’s West African neighbors
Mr.Hundeyin who maintained that if the state of the road was like that twenty eight years ago, he would not have invested in hospital business in Badagry, expressed hope that the narrative will change soon, if Government is sincere about finding a lasting solution to the problem.
Contributing, a seasoned Media practitioner and a tourism advocate, Miss Temitope George, said that the world tourism day is meant to showcase the rich culture of Badagry including African cuisine.
Miss George, stressed that African delicacies are nutritious and medicinal for humans wellbeing.
