Five names have been removed from the fresh list of commissioner-nominees that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu sent to the Assembly after the Lagos State House of Assembly rejected 17 of the 39 commissioner-nominees it had previously sent for screening in August.
Six new names—Afolabi Tajudeen, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, Tolani Sule-Akibu, Yekini Agbaje, Iyabode Ayoola, and Sola Giwa—have taken their place.
Former commissioners Gbenga Omotoso, Akin Abayomi, Olalere Odusote, Cecila Dada, Sam Egube, Folashade Ambrose-Medem, Yomi Olorunyomi, Rotimi Fashola, Mosopefolu George, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Mrs. Barakat Bakare, and Olumide Oluyinka are also listed.
Monday’s plenary session saw the reading of the governor’s letter by the House of Assembly clerk, Olalekan Onafeko.

Thus, the screening committee headed by Chief Whip Fatai Mojeed was instructed by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa to reconvene and begin screening the nominees as of Tuesday. On Thursday, the committee is required to submit a report to the House.
The governor’s letter stated in part, “After careful consideration of the 17 names that were rejected, I have decided to represent a list of nominees which includes a balanced selection of previously presented and new individuals.
“This list represents a broad political spectrum and diverse backgrounds reflective of the rich diversity of our lovely state. I am confident these new nominees would bring fresh ideas that would help the growth and progress of Lagos.”
