The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has distanced itself from a job application webpage established in its name and requesting applications from Nigerians.
Interested applicants were advised to visit the CBN’s website to view the application portal, recruitment form, requirements, and instructions on how to apply after it was learned that the apex bank had started its 2023/2024 application recruiting operation.
However, Isa Abdulmumin, the acting director of the CBN’s corporate communications division, said in a statement on Thursday that the bank had been made aware of “a fake recruitment portal inviting eligible members to submit applications in an exercise that will commence soon.”
The CBN spokesperson referred to the portal as phoney since it tries to profit from the nation’s unemployment problems.

“The fraudulent website lists requirements for eligibility to include, among other qualifications, the possession of a bank verification number (BVN). The portal goes on to state that those with physical disabilities are not eligible to apply,” the statement reads.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the CBN is currently not carrying out any general recruitment exercise and will never request for the BVN of intending applicants nor discriminate against persons with physical disabilities.
“Accordingly, members of the public are hereby warned to be wary of fraudulent recruitment agents bent on taking advantage of the employment challenge to defraud eligible applicants, particularly young graduates. Please be guided accordingly.“
